Successful management of a sporadic pancreatic insulinoma by endoscopic ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation.
A 70-year-old woman presented with an 18-month history of recurrent episodes of dizziness that were alleviated by sugary drinks. During one of these episodes, a low blood glucose of 1.6mmol/L was noted. Her past medical history included atrial fibrillation and severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), necessitating long-term oxygen therapy. Given the high index of suspicion of sponta...

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA), a method of achieving tumor necrosis by cell protein denaturation that is induced by heating tissues to above 45°C, is applied in the treatment of several malignancies. Energy is provided by an RFA current generator, which is connected to an active electrode needle that is placed into the tumor under image guidance. The lesions created have variable diameters, dep...

Surgical resection is considered the standard of care in the management of symptomatic insulinoma. In this video, we describe the successful management of a symptomatic insulinoma by using linear array endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided ethanol ablation in a poor surgical candidate. EUS-guided ethanol ablation of insulinoma offers a safer, effective, and less invasive alternative to surgery.

SUMMARY Insulinomas are the most frequent cause of hyperinsulinaemic hypoglycaemia. Although surgical enucleation is the standard treatment, a few other options are available to high-risk patients who are elderly or present with co-morbidities. We present a case report of an 89-year-old female patient who was admitted to the emergency department due to recurrent hypoglycaemia, especially during...
متن کاملRetroperitoneoscopic-guided radiofrequency ablation of renal tumors.
OBJECTIVE Minimally invasive approaches to the management of renal tumors are being studied intensively in urology. Herein, we describe the use of multiple organ-sparing techniques for the management of tumors in a patient with von Hippel Lindau disease (VHL). MATERIALS AND METHODS A 42 year-old woman with VHL underwent a right partial adrenalectomy and a left renal radiofrequency ablation (R...
